Job Description

The Cloud / DevOps Engineer role at Bear Cognition is pivotal for driving our cloud resource utilization, strengthening system resilience, and ensuring seamless application integration in our AWS/GCP Environments. You’ll work closely with product, data, and platform teams to automate infrastructure deployments, optimize costs, and champion continuous improvement across our cloud stack.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

Design & Operate

• Build and maintain scalable, highly available, fault-tolerant systems on AWS and GCP.
• Streamline resource utilization for cost efficiency without sacrificing performance.

Collaboration & Integration

• Partner with product, data, and platform engineering to integrate applications smoothly.
• Act as the DevOps liaison for cross-functional teams.

Automation & CI/CD

• Lead infrastructure-as-code deployments (Terraform, Ansible).
• Implement and own CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CodeBuild, Cloud Build, etc.).

Monitoring & Optimization

• Continuously monitor, diagnose, and optimize cloud infrastructure and application operations.
• Leverage CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, and other observability tools.
• Streamline Insights to Slack Channels to alert Devs for Quick Fail Quick Fix Mentality

Innovation & Best Practices

• Stay current on AWS and multi-cloud offerings (GCP, Azure), evangelize improvements.
• Enforce security best practices (IAM least-privilege, VPC hardening, Secrets Manager).

Required Qualifications - Education / Experience

BS in Computer Science or Information Systems & 3+ years of relevant experience or 5+ years of relevant professional experience.

Cloud Platforms

• AWS – deep expertise in Lambda, CodeBuild, ECR, EKS (Fargate & EC2), EC2, S3, IAM, API Gateway, CloudWatch, VPC, Secrets Manager, ElastiCache, EventBridge, SQS.
• GCP – Cloud Build, Cloud Run, Artifact Registry, IAM, Cloud Storage, Logs Explorer, Monitoring, Pub/Sub, Firebase/Firestore.

Containerization & Orchestration

• Docker – building and managing images/containers.
• Kubernetes – cluster management, deployments, Fargate/EC2 nodes.

Infrastructure as Code

• Terraform – modules, multi-cloud provider knowledge (AWS, GCP, Snowflake; bonus: GitHub).
• Ansible – playbooks for VM configuration and patching.
• YAML – authoring manifests, CI/CD workflows.

CI/CD & Scripting

• GitHub & GitHub Actions – branching, PRs, merges, permission scoping, Actions pipelines.
• Shell / PowerShell – automation scripts across Windows, macOS, Linux.
• Python – tool development, cloud function integrations, Prefect flows.

Networking & Security

• SSL/TLS certificates, load balancing, advanced VPC design, security group management, SSH/RDP key-based access (pem, p8).

Preferred

• AWS Certifications (Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, Developer).
• Experience with Azure – Entra ID, SSO/SAML integrations.
