Our client, a midsized law firm, nationally recognized for its Chambers-ranked Construction Practice Group, is seeking an experienced Associate to join their team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mid-to-senior level Associate with a strong background in transactional construction law (minimum 5 years) representing developers, owners, contractors, and institutional clients on complex commercial, infrastructure, and mixed-use projects. The ideal candidate is a confident, communicative, and detail-oriented professional who thrives in collaborative environments and is eager to take ownership of sophisticated matters and drive them to successful outcomes.
This role centers on negotiating agreements on behalf of developers and other clients, drafting and advising on a wide range of construction contracts including AIA documents, design-build, EPC, CM-at-risk, and other project-specific agreements. The associate will be expected to engage fully in the transactional process, managing client expectations, collaborating across practice groups, and providing strategic guidance on project delivery structures and risk mitigation. Strong transactional experience is essential, as the work spans every stage of a construction project—from concept and negotiation through contract administration and close-out. The role involves frequent interaction with sophisticated clients, and the successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to see matters through to completion with clarity and efficiency.
The successful candidate will have a J.D. from an accredited law school and be admitted and in good standing with the New York bar. A minimum of 5-to-7 years’ experience in construction law with a clear focus on transactional work is required, ideally in a law firm or in-house counsel setting supporting construction or development clients. Familiarity with industry-standard agreements such as AIA forms is essential.
The candidate must have confidence and exceptional communication skills, particularly in client-facing situations and cross-disciplinary matters. A proactive, solutions-oriented approach, strong drafting ability, and the capacity to take ownership and see matters through to a successful conclusion are keys to success in this role. The firm offers a competitive salary range of $225K-$245K, commensurate with experience, along with the opportunity to earn an annual discretionary performance-based bonus. Benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, and a hybrid work policy that supports flexibility.
