Job Description

Koloma is a geologic hydrogen company that leverages its technology, proprietary data, and human capital advantages to identify and commercialize these resources on a global scale. We are developing technologies that will enable the production of low cost, reliable, carbon-free hydrogen. Our team is led by seasoned energy executives and world-renowned technical thought leaders.

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Geologist to join our multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in geosciences, practical industry experience, and a demonstrated ability to work across a wide range of geological disciplines. You will contribute to technical research projects involving subsurface exploration and resource evaluation, and play a key role in intellectual property development within subsurface earth sciences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and drive geologic research and subsurface exploration activities across diverse geologic settings, including igneous and metamorphic terrains.
  • Conduct geospatial data analysis and produce geological maps using ArcGIS or equivalent GIS software.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, papers, presentations, and patent applications.
  • Deliver presentations and briefings to internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Support the development and evaluation of new technologies and methodologies, particularly related to geological hydrogen and subsurface exploration.
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams involving geochemists, geophysicists, stratigraphers, engineers, and data scientists.
  • Compile, interpret, and integrate multiple types of data across geochemical, geophysical, and geological disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Geosciences, Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • At least 2-6 years of relevant professional experience (e.g., hydrogeology, geothermal, oil & gas, or mining industry preferred).
  • Proficiency in GIS platforms (ArcGIS Pro or equivalent) and geologic modeling software.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and experience presenting complex geoscience concepts.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience interpreting and integrating multivariable data sets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, or Earth Sciences is a plus.
  • Experience in geologic or geochemical sampling or modeling of subsurface energy systems (e.g., petroleum systems modeling).
  • Familiarity with IP and technology development processes (e.g., prior experience with patent applications) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in a fast-paced industry.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software.

Onboarding Notes

  • Koloma provides exceptional benefits including healthcare, vision, and dental and a retirement plan.
  • This is an in-office role in Columbus, OH. Koloma supports flexible schedules where practical, but maintaining our strong culture, focus, and momentum requires team members to be in-office.
  • Industry-competitive compensation with significant stock option upside.
