Job Description

Library Science Writer - Curricular Development

Location: Stanford, CA (Remote, with weekly in-person brainstorming/white-boarding meetings) Schedule: 24-40 hours per week

Shift: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (includes a 30-minute lunch break)

We are searching for a meticulous and innovative Library & Information Science Specialist to contribute to the creation of exceptional curricular materials for our academic research programs.

The successful candidate will be adept at curating information, applying principles of information literacy, and collaborating effectively with faculty and instructional teams. Essential to this role are strong writing and editing abilities, coupled with a dedication to creating engaging and understandable materials for learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and development of high-caliber curricular materials.
  • Organize and curate educational content, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Apply information literacy principles to enhance learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty and instructional teams on curriculum development.
  • Author and refine content to ensure clarity, conciseness, and engagement for various learning platforms.

Desired Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Library and Information Science or a closely related field, complemented by demonstrable experience in the organization and curation of educational or research materials.
  • A robust understanding of information literacy concepts, metadata standards, and the management of digital resources is crucial.
  • Prior experience working alongside faculty or instructional teams to build curricular content is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), tools for instructional design, or open educational resources (OER) will also be considered a significant asset.

Requirements:

Education & Experience (Required):

  • A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and related professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required):

  • Proficiency in library and information science principles, encompassing information organization, metadata standards, and the curation of digital resources.
  • A solid grasp of information literacy frameworks and best practices for fostering learner engagement.
  • Demonstrated success in producing written content for publication across print, web, and other digital platforms.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven talent for writing, editing, and structuring thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized fashion.
  • The capacity to comprehend moderately complex materials and synthesize information from diverse sources to create resources for trainees.
  • Effective skills in managing and prioritizing multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent time management capabilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Consistently perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand, walk, sit, utilize light/fine manipulation for grasping, and use a telephone and write by hand.
  • Occasionally reach or work above shoulder level, grasp items forcefully, and sort/file paperwork or components.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory acuity, including color vision, is necessary.
