As the Director of Health & Safety, you will be responsible for leading, motivating, and fostering a culture of health and safety excellence within our North American Fiber Procurement organization. What we do:

The North American Fiber Procurement team at Smurfit Westrock is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Our recycling system is comprised of 25 recycle plants across the United States, where we receive, sort, and bale paper and other recyclable materials. Our recycled fiber procurement teams are located at 12 of our recycled paper mills, and our centralized support function is located at the Atlanta, Georgia headquarters. Our recycling business operates a fleet of trucks to transport paper and other recyclable materials between customers and our recycling centers. A key aspect of this role is collaborating with the business to ensure that the fleet adheres to applicable transportation safety regulations. The combined recycled fiber segment includes more than 500 fiber buyers, recycle plant operators, truck drivers, plant office staff, and corporate support team members.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock:

  • Develop programs and processes to ensure site-level compliance with applicable safety regulations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements for the owner/operator, including helping sites with issues relating to driver qualifications, hours-of-service limits, drug testing requirements and regulatory audits
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and other reports on the business’ safety performance for leaders; identify and effectively communicate best practices across the business
  • Participate in corporate safety audits as requested and work with site leadership to ensure prompt site closure of findings from corporate safety audits
